How does a air compressor booster work?
Dec 18 , 2023Air compressor booster, also known as air booster, is a device used to increase the pressure of compressed air. It operates by taking a lower pressure compressed air supply and increasing its pressure to a higher level. The following is the typical working principle of the air compressor supercharger:
1.Intake supply: An air supercharger is connected to a low pressure air source, such as an existing air compressor or compressed air system. The pressure of the inlet air supply is usually 20 to 200 psi (pounds per square inch).
2.Supercharger section: The air supercharger consists of a supercharger section consisting of two pistons or pneumatic reciprocating cylinders. One piston is called the low pressure (LP) side, while the other is called the high pressure (HP) side.
3.Air compression: The low pressure piston is driven by an incoming low pressure air source. When a low-pressure piston moves forward, it compresses the air in its chamber, thereby increasing its pressure.
4.Supercharger ratio: The ratio between the LP piston area and the HP piston area determines the pressure amplification. For example, if the boost ratio is 10:1, the pressure on the HP side will be ten times higher than on the LP side.
5.Air transmission: Compressed air from the low pressure side is transmitted to the high pressure side through a channel or valve device. The high pressure piston is driven by compressed air on the low pressure side, further compressing the air to the higher pressure required.
6.Emission and control: High-pressure air is then discharged from the supercharger to the desired application or storage system. Air superchargers can have controllers and valves to regulate the pressure and flow rate of discharged air.
7.Energy: Air superchargers can be operated using a variety of energy sources, including air drive systems, hydraulic power or electric motors. In an air-driven supercharger, a small amount of incoming compressed air is used to drive a low-pressure piston and facilitate the compression process.
Air compressor superchargers are commonly used in applications that require higher pressures than those provided by existing compressed air systems. They can be used in industries such as manufacturing, construction, automotive, oil and gas where high-pressure air is required for specific tools, equipment or processes.
