Solar electric air separation has arrived

Jun 10 , 2022

Messer is investing more than $50 million (equivalent to RMB 320 million) in a large air separation unit facility in McGregor, Texas, USA. The power required for future production will be provided by an on-site solar panel array system. This will be a landmark air separation, the first Messer facility in the world to use on-site solar power to generate electricity, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of gas production.

"With our expansion in Texas and the addition of solar energy, Messer will continue to focus on environmental protection and sustainability," said Jens Luehring, CEO of Messer Americas. "We are moving towards a renewable energy-based future and this investment is an integral part of Messer's green energy initiative, while we continue to bring a reliable gas supply to our customers."

The new solar electric air separation plant, when operational, will meet the growing demand for gas in Central Texas, supporting the region's emerging industries, including aerospace, chemicals, electronics, food and beverage, healthcare, metals and oil and gas. The air separation will be commissioned in the second quarter of 2024. Get more solutions on www.bangwingas.com.
